POLICE are investigating after 28 birds were stolen from a shed in Gosport.

The shed, in the back garden of a home in Forton Road, was broken into overnight between Wednesday, January 14, and Thursday, January 15.

Birds that were taken included goldfinches and canaries.

DC Lucia Davies said: ‘I’m particularly concerned because the animals require specific vitamins and could become sick and die without them.

‘I’d like to speak to anyone who has knowledge of this theft, or of the whereabouts of these birds.

‘I would especially like to hear from anyone who has recently acquired a large number of birds or been offered them for sale.’

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Davies at Fratton police station on 101.

Alternatively call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
