TWO men have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man died in what police have described as suspicious circumstances.
An investigation is underway into the death of the 48-year-old man in Rowner.
Detectives are looking into whether the victim and the two men who have been arrested were all taking drugs together in the hours before his death.
Police and paramedics were called to an address in Williams Close, Rowner, at 7.49pm on Saturday.
The man from Gosport was pronounced dead at the scene.
An initial post-mortem examination was conducted by a Home Office pathologist today.
Police say the overall findings were inconclusive.
Toxicology tests, which will look at whether the man had taken any drugs or alcohol, will be carried out on the body in due course.
HM Coroner has been updated and the man’s next-of-kin have been told.
Police say they would not name the man until all formal identification procedures have been completed.
A police spokesman said: ‘The death is being treated as suspicious in the initial stages of the investigation so evidence can be secured promptly for further lines of enquiry.
‘Two men, aged 40 and 43, from Gosport were arrested in relation to the death. They are being interviewed in police custody.
‘There is no information to suggest a wider risk to the community.
‘Hampshire Constabulary would like to thank members of the public for their co-operation and assistance with enquiries so far.’
Police are carrying out house-to-house enquiries in the community and a forensic examination of the address in Williams Close where the man was found dead.
