TWO men were arrested following a failed robbery attempt at a post office.

The postmaster was grabbed by two men – one carrying a metal bar – as he opened the back door of the Post Office in The Precinct, West Meads, Bognor Regis, at about 6am yesterday.

They demanded keys to the safe, but fled through a back courtyard a few minutes later as he did not have access to them.

The postmaster was left shaken but unhurt.

Police searched the area and arrested two men travelling in a silver Ford Mondeo in nearby West Meads Drive less than 45 minutes later. The men, aged 18 and 22, were quizzed on suspicion of attempted robbery.

Detective Sergeant Russ Burgess said: ‘The police response enabled two arrests to be made quickly, but we are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area of The Precinct at 6am on Wednesday and saw two men acting suspiciously.’

Both suspects are white and about 5ft 9in.

One wore a grey hooded top. The other wore a dark coloured hooded top.
