A MAN has been left in hospital with serious head injuries after a vicious attack.

Police are seeking witnesses to a serious assault that happened in Forton Road, Gosport, at the junction with Leonard Road, near to Yummies Kebab shop.

Four people were involved in an altercation in the street which left a 35-year-old man with serious injuries.

He was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham, suffering from a fractured cheekbone and injuries to his right eye.

Detective Constable Gemma Hunter is now appealing for witnesses to the brawl which took place at about 9.30pm on Monday, May 9.

Police have only just released the details.

Det Con Hunter said: ‘We believe that the four people involved in this incident were all known to one another and we are currently investigating the exact circumstances of this altercation which led to the serious injuries sustained by the victim.

‘The exact reason for the attack is unknown, but this is extremely rare and is not believed to be random, but provoked as a result of a dispute.

‘Due to the location and passing traffic it is possible that someone may have seen something which will assist the police with their enquiries.’

A 35-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman have been arrested in connection with the incident released on bail.
