TWO police officers were attacked when they were called to a report of domestic violence.

Jayne Paffett dialled 999 after her partner Mark Clements assaulted her at her home in Hayling Island.

When PCs Brendon Beresford and Richard Orris arrived, Clements turned his anger on them.

The 42-year-old threw a plate against a wall and then picked up one of the broken shards and tried to stab PC Orris with it.

As PC Beresford restrained the thug, Clements headbutted him in the face before both the officers managed to pin him to the ground.

The incident happened on July 11.

Clements, of Beach Road, Southsea, pleaded guilty to two counts of assaulting a police officer in the execution of his duty and one of common assault when he appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court.

The court heard he was on antidepressants at the time of the attacks which could have affected his temper.

Yesterday he was handed a 12-month community order by magistrates.

As part of the order he will have to attend a domestic abuse programme to address his behaviour and he will have 12 months of supervision from the probation service.
