A MAN has been charged by police investigating an attempted break-in and assault.
Police were called to Bevis Road late on Friday night to reports of a 51-year-old who was injured.
He was taken to Southampton General Hospital where he is in a stable condition.
Neighbours spoke of their shock at the incident.
One resident, who did not want to be named, said: ‘I have lived here for years and it is awful to think someone was hurt here.
‘I didn’t see or hear anything but was told by a neighbour.’
Another neighbour 76-year-old Anne Keane added: ‘I am shocked that something like that happened so close to home. It is horrible to think about.’
n Police said yesterday that a 34-year-old man has been charged by detectives investigating an attempted break-in and assault.
Andrew Miles, of no fixed abode, has been charged with wounding with intent and attempted burglary of a dwelling with intent to steal.
He has also been charged with possession of a bladed article in a public place and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.
He was remanded and was due to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court today.
