MAGISTRATES have jailed a man who stole a car while he was banned from driving and over the alcohol limit.

John Harris had been drinking when he took a Ford Transit van that was parked in London Road, North End, Portsmouth, on February 26.

After driving the van at high speeds he was stopped by the police, still in London Road.

A breathalyser test revealed he was nearly three times the legal limit, with 103 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

The court heard the 54-year-old already had a number of previous convictions for drink-driving and his latest offence was the ninth time he had been caught driving while disqualified.

Harris had also ignored court orders in the past.

He was jailed for four months and banned from driving for another three years.
