A WOMAN valiantly fought back against a robber as he grabbed her and tried to steal her mobile phone.

The 30-year-old stopped to check her phone at the junction of St Mary’s Road and Whitcombe Gardens, in Milton.

As the woman opened her phone, she was grabbed from behind by a man.

He attempted to snatch the phone.

The woman elbowed him before she turned and ran away from him.

She was not injured and nothing was stolen.

The attack happened at about 8pm on Thursday, although details have just been released by Hampshire Constabulary.

A 23-year-old man, from Portsmouth, was arrested on Friday on suspicion of attempted robbery.

He was questioned and bailed until December 27, pending further inquiries.
