ROGUE traders are targeting Gosport residents and pretending to be part of a home insulation scheme.

Insulate Hampshire is a new programme which aims to save residents money on their energy bills.

The scheme, backed by Hampshire County Council and Gosport Borough Council, launches tomorrow.

But private contractors have been contacting residents and pretending to be part of the scheme before its launch.

Carol White, Gosport Borough Council’s energy efficiency officer, said: ‘We have been made aware that other insulation contractors are targeting Gosport residents claiming to be part of the scheme.

‘That is untrue. Any household visits before July 26 will definitely not be from Insulate Hampshire.

‘Genuine advisors will always provide a free phone number for residents to call and check if advisors are expected in their area.

‘Advisors will also have suitable ID and branded uniforms.’

People are being urged to report any suspicious visits to Hampshire Trading Standards on 0808 156 2258.
