A DRIVER from Waterlooville has been arrested on suspicion of causing the death of a cyclist by careless driving.

The 33-year-old man is being questioned at Waterlooville police station after the fatal crash on the A3 yesterday.

As reported, a 32-year-old cyclist was killed in a crash on the southbound carriageway near the Hindhead tunnel at Bramshott.

The incident happened at about 7.30am and several cars are believed to have been involved.

The man on the bicycle was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police will formally identify the man tomorrow, but he is believed to be from Hampshire.

The A3 southbound and the Hindhead tunnel was closed for around 11 hours as forensic investigators tried to work out what had happened.

A 26-mile long diversion route was put in place from Guildford via the A31 to Farnham, and the A325 south to the A3 at Liss.

Police say they need to hear from any motorists who were driving in the area at about 7.30am yesterday and may have witnessed the crash or the moments leading up to it.
