A MAN punched his ex-girlfriend in the face after she refused to accept their relationship was over.

Daniel Aylward sent Charlotte Peachey a text saying he didn’t want a relationship.

She replied saying: ‘Don’t do this. I love you, please come and talk to me.’

When Ms Peachey didn’t get a response she went round to Aylward’s home in Waterlooville and tried to talk to him.

Annoyed, Aylward pushed her to the ground but when she still didn’t leave he punched her in the right eye.

Tim Sparkes, defending, said: ‘He did not want to speak to Charlotte Peachey.

‘She was not blameless in this.’

Aylward, of Corbett Road, Waterlooville, pleaded guilty to common assault when he appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court.

Ms Peachey tried to stop the prosecution but other witnesses saw the assault.

The court heard the 22-year-old has previous convictions for violence, including an assault against Ms Peachey.

He was jailed for 56 days.
