A FORMER hospital health care assistant has pleaded not guilty to one count of rape, and four other sexual offences against a patient.

Sajin Kunjappu Panikkassery, 29, has been in custody since he was arrested after the alleged incident at St Richard’s Hospital on January 10.

He appeared at Chichester Crown Court yesterday via a video link from Lewes Prison.

He has also been charged with five offences involving sexual activity with person with a mental disorder, whose choice was impeded. The victim was in her 20s and was a patient at the hospital.
