A MAN arrested after a passenger died when the car he was driving crashed into a tree has been bailed.

The 20-year-old man from Widley was driving a silver Ford Fiesta west on Heath road, Soberton, near Bishops Waltham, when it left the road.

The passenger, a 38-year-old Wickham man, suffered multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which happened at about 10pm on Sunday.

He had not yet been named by police.

The driver was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham where he was treated for an injury to his shoulder.

He was later discharged and arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving while unfit through drink and/or drugs.

However he has now been bailed until November 27.

Heath Road was shut for about five hours while accident investigators worked at the scene.

Hampshire Constabulary has renewed its appeal for anyone who was on the road at the time of the crash and who may have witnessed the collision or seen the Ford Fiesta driving before the collision to come forward.
