A HANDBAG and purse have been stolen from a home in Hill Head.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the burglary Saturday afternoon.

Someone entered a house in Old Street through an unlocked door between 1pm and 7pm. A beige handbag and purse were taken.

Detective Constable Dermot McBride said: ‘This is a rare incident to have happened during daytime hours while most people would have been at home.

‘I would appeal to anyone who lives in the area to contact me if they saw any person or vehicle loitering in the area, acting suspiciously or cold calling.

‘I’d like to hear from anyone who saw a man on a bicycle carrying a bucket on the handle bars who was seen in the area at around 3pm.

‘I’d also like to take this opportunity to remind residents to keep their windows and doors secure, even if you are only popping out for a short time, relaxing in the garden or sleeping.’

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Det Con McBride at Gosport police station by phoning 101.
