POLICE are appealing for witnesses following the accident which left a woman with multiple injuries.

At around 2.45pm yesterday police were called to a serious two vehicle collision on Havant Road at Bedhampton, just west of the Rusty Cutter roundabout.

A blue Ford Mondeo travelling west was involved in a collision with a white Ford Transit Connect van which was travelling east.

The driver of the Mondeo, a 44-year-old woman from Cosham was trapped in the car and had to be released by Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service.

She was treated at the scene by Paramedics and the medical crew of an Air Ambulance before being taken by road to Southampton General Hospital. She remains there in a critical but stable condition with multiple injuries.

The driver of the van, a 51-year-old man from Hayling Island, and a male passenger received less serious injuries and were taken QA Hospital.

The road was closed for four hours whilst police conducted an examination of the scene and recovered the vehicles.
