A WOMAN was punched and then sexually assaulted in a vile attack.

The 38-year-old victim, was walking south along Hellyer Road in Eastney when a man approached her to ask the time.

He then pushed her against a wall where he punched the victim and sexually assaulted her.

The attack took place at around 9.30pm on Tuesday, October 2. Police have only just released details.

PC Nick Jackson, who is investigating the incident, said: ‘We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or anyone who recognises the suspect from the description.

‘The victim has been left shocked and upset by this assault.

‘Thankfully this is a rare occurrence; however increased police patrols have been put in place to help to reassure the community.’

The suspect is described as a white man, aged in his 20s, of a slim build and 5ft 4/8in tall. He was wearing a dark hooded top with the hood up, dark bottoms and white trainers
