AN 87-year-old woman is in hospital after a burglar forced his way into her Havant home.

Police teams have been at the detached house in Lymbourn Road since the early hours after the raider struck.

Officers have cordoned off a wooded path next to the house and forensic officers in protective suits have been going in and out of the property taking evidence.

A statement from Hampshire police said: ‘Police are investigating a burglary at an in address Havant.

‘A man forced entry to the home of a woman in her 80s just before 3.30am this morning.

‘Officers are in the process of establishing the exact circumstances of the incident.’

The woman has been taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth.

Neighbours were shocked to see three police vans and officers in the street, which is full of Victorian properties and a short walk from Havant town centre.

One neighbour said: ‘It’s a little bit disturbing.

‘It makes you think about security.

‘The fact they have been here for hours and hours would suggest there are seriously interested in something.

‘It’s a very quiet area.’
