A 52-YEAR-OLD woman accused of trying to smuggle £12,000 of cannabis through a ferry port has appeared in court.

Fiona Hay is alleged to have tried to import 8.8lb (4kg) of the class B drug in an estate car through Portsmouth International port.

The drugs were found hidden in food in the vehicle.

Hay, who is British but is understood to live in Granada, Spain, was arrested on her arrival at the port on a ferry from Bilbao in Spain after Border Force officers searched the vehicle on April 16.

She was remanded in custody to reappear at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court on May 17.
