AN ATTACKER pounced upon a young woman and dragged her to the ground in an attempted robbery.

The victim was walking on the Pilgrim’s Trail footpath while listening to her iPod when she heard a bike approaching her.

The man riding it dragged her to the ground near the Portsbridge roundabout in Portsmouth, east of the 1000 Lakeside development.

He tried to steal her iPod and handbag but the 24-year-old victim managed to fight the attacker off and he fled empty-handed.

Police want to hear from witnesses to the incident, which happened at about 4.10pm on Tuesday.

Detective Constable Allison Fraser said: ‘This incident took place on a busy cycle and pedestrian track near a busy roundabout.’

The attacker is white, about 5ft 8in and in his mid to late 20s with a goatee beard and dark brown curly hair. He wore a white baseball cap, white top, black shell suit trousers, black trainers and white socks.

Call Det Con Fraser at Fratton CID on 101.
