A WOMAN has been jailed after she

helped an illegal immigrant into Portsmouth.

Audrey Delevaux was sentenced at Portsmouth Crown Court to 27 months in prison after she pleaded guilty to assisting unlawful immigration.

Delevaux, from France, was arrested at Portsmouth International Port on July 15 when the passenger in her car aroused suspicion with Border Force officers.

They checked the woman’s ID which claimed she was an Italian international but it was fake. She was stopped from entering the country and Delevaux was arrested.

The court heard investigations into the fake ID showed it had been used by a different passenger in the car of Delevaux in April but no suspicions had been raised.

During sentencing Honour Judge Roger Hetherington said: ‘You got commercial gain from this and although there is no evidence that you were the main person behind this, you did play a role of some significance.’

Delevaux, 30, had her car forfeited as part of her sentence.
