A MAN is being quizzed on suspicion of rape after a woman was attacked in a Portsmouth park.

The 22-year-old victim was sexually assaulted in Victoria Park between 4pm and 4.30pm on Sunday.

Police arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of rape yesterday morning. Last night he was still being held in custody.

Meanwhile the victim has been receiving support from specialist officers.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said: ‘Police were called at 6.15pm on Sunday, November 10, 2013 to a report of a serious sexual assault on a 22-year-old woman from Portsmouth.

‘Initial enquiries have established the assault took place in Victoria Park sometime between 4pm and 4.30pm on Sunday, November 10, 2013.

‘Specialist officers are working with the woman to provide dedicated support for her welfare.

‘A 31-year-old man from Portsmouth was arrested Monday morning, on suspicion of rape. He is being questioned in custody at a police station. ‘
