AN ELDERLY woman was taken to hospital after an accident on a motorway.

Police and paramedics were called to the eastbound M27 above the Portsbridge roundabout – where it meets the A27 – yesterday evening at around 6.30pm.

Officers from Hampshire Constabulary closed two lanes of the motorway following a crash involving at least one vehicle in which a woman was injured.

The woman patient was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital, in Cosham, but the seriousness of her injuries is not know.

The lane closure caused long traffic queues stretching back to Fareham, but police were able to reopen the motorway by 8pm.

Police refused to release any further details about the accident.
