TWO women were punched by two men they were arguing with in the early hours.

The first woman, 25, was punched in the face and later taken to hospital with a swollen eye.

When her 20-year-old friend tried to help she too was punched.

It happened in Isambard Brunel Road, Portsmouth, on Tuesday at 1.15am.

Both of the men ran off after the assault on the women.

One man was in his late teenage years to early 20s, between 5ft 8in and 5ft 9in, had dark blond or brown hair and was wearing a burgundy woollen jumper and blue jeans.

The second was white and aged about 19.

Police are hunting for witnesses and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

A police spokesman said: ‘Officers say this appears to have been a one-off incident as a result of a verbal dispute and would like to hear from anyone who saw what happened or knows who’s responsible.

‘Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Peter Dazley at Fratton police station on 101 or the anonymous Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.’

Neither of the women knew the men.
