Youth group members bid

YOUNG people are being encouraged to influence policing.

Hampshire’s police and crime commissioner Simon Hayes is looking for youngsters to join his Youth Commission. Anyone aged between 14 and 15 who lives in the area can join.

Currently there are 25 people in the commission.

Gabrielle Day, a member from Fareham, said: ‘I’ve made a difference by raising awareness of important issues that affect young people and I’ve got a wider understanding of people from different backgrounds.’

Mr Hayes added: ‘I set up the Youth Commission because I believe it’s important to take young people’s views into account. They are the future and will drive social change.

‘I encourage any young person, including those who have direct experience of the police and justice systems to apply.’

Applications are open until March 4.

People will be invited to an assessment evening in late March. Apply at hampshire-pcc.gov.uk/youthcommission
