A COMPETITION encouraging people to send in their best food-saving tips has been launched.

Hampshire County Council’s Smart Living team wants people to give their top advice and images for a chance to win prizes.

The competition is part of an effort to reduce the amount of food thrown away around Christmas.

The team has also released a list of 12 tips for cutting down on waste.

The tips include planning Christmas meals more carefully, and serving food in bowls placed in the middle of the table where people can help themselves rather than leaving food going to waste on plates.

The team also recommends freeing food – including fruit – that won’t be used over Christmas, and making an effort to eat through forgotten food in the freezer before the
holidays.

Tips and images can be sent to waste.prevention@hants.gov.uk or via the Facebook page which can be found by searching for Smart Living – Hampshire.
