IT was originally painted so it would blend in with its surroundings, but now this antique tank is standing out like never before.
The Second World War-era Churchill Mk 6 tank outside the D-Day Museum in Southsea has been ‘yarn bombed’ by knitters.
Maddie Wallace, 41, of Southsea, said the decoration was done to raise awareness of breast and testicular cancer.
She said: ‘It looks fantastic. We had over 200 people donating squares and sewing them together for us.’
Ms Wallace said the organisers of the Victorious Festival had invited them to yarn bomb other objects around the festival ground during the weekend.
The tank’s new coat will later be split into blankets and donated to homeless veterans.
