Dancing in the street as flash mob takes over

SHOPPERS in Portsmouth were treated to an impromptu dance performance by students from the University of Portsmouth.

The group turned on their music and burst into dance yesterday,

The group started as four dancersand soon became around 20.

The ‘flash mob’ was made up of students from the university dance club. They performed in Commercial Road, outside H&M. They danced to hits from the likes of Justin Timberlake and Girls Aloud.

The event was held to promote the opening of Popworld, a new nightclub in Portsmouth that is replacing former club Babylon.

Popworld is a nightclub specialising in playing pop music from the 90s to the present day.

Shopper Tracey Richardson said: ‘It’s like walking into a television advert! This is very surreal.’

The students come from a range of disciplines. All are part of the university’s dance club in their spare time.

Dancer Charlotte Bradbrook, 21, said: ‘We did a flash mob in the centre of Portsmouth last year to raise money for charity. It was really fun so we decided to do another one.’

Fellow dancer Kelsey Lentes, 19, added: ‘We’re doing it to help promote the opening of Popworld. They let us use the site for our dance rehearsals so this is our way of saying thank you.’

It held its grand opening was last night.
