Radio station listeners have been urged to join the turnout for the funeral of former Royal Marine Jimmy McConnell.
Mark Acheson, associate editor of The News, told Wave 105 listeners that they would be welcome at the service at Milton Cemetery in Portsmouth at 9.30am on Thursday.
During a chat with presenter Mark Collins about some of the stories featured in the paper, Mark said it was heartening to see the response from hundreds of people who had pledged to pay their respects at the funeral after it was revealed that Jimmy had no known relatives or friends who might attend.
