Three Chelsea Pensioners have paid a trip to Portsmouth’s HMS Atherstone in Bahrain.

Albert Willis, 75, Barry Prior, 65 and Simon de Buissere, 68, all served as non-commissioned officers in the British Army.

The pensioners were welcomed on board by Lieutenant Commander Simon Rodgers.

‘We jumped at the opportunity to extend an invitation to them,’ he said.

‘I, along with my crew, was extremely proud to be able to host the Chelsea Pensioners.’

They then took the opportunity to talk to serving Royal Navy personnel.

Warrant Officer Dave Baker, Marine Engineering Officer, said: ‘It was a brilliant occasion.

They were interested in hearing about what we’ve been up to and navy life in general.’

Before leaving the ship the three men were presented with a framed photo of HMS Atherstone.
