ABOUT 2,000 children and their families enjoyed a selection of rides and games to kick-start HMS Sultan’s Summer Show.

The Gosport base held its annual children’s party yesterday evening for children who are disabled and deserving of the free family event.

It is brilliant of the base to do it.

As well as a range of fairground rides, the evening also had monster trucks on show and helicopters.

Lisa Higman, from Gosport, went along with her daughters Bethaney, 14, and Rosie, 12.

She said: ‘If it wasn’t for the children’s party, we would not be able to enjoy what the Summer Show offers.

‘Bethaney would not be able to cope on the Saturday or Sunday so this allows us to come down as a family and have a nice evening out.

‘It is brilliant of the base to do it.’

Mum-of-two Erin Lind agrees. She was there with her partner Ross Turner and her sons Brodie, two, and Harvey, four.

Erin added: ‘This is the second time we have been and the boys have had a lot of fun. It is a great idea by HMS Sultan.’

The bases’s commanding officer, Captain Trevor Culley, added: ‘It is fantastic to see so many families enjoy the party. We like to be able to give something back to the community.’
