SAILORS went head-to-head with each other in a boxing ring to raise money for charity.

Teams from HMS Sultan, in Gosport, and HMS Collingwood, in Fareham, traded blows with each other at an annual boxing dinner show.

Now they have handed over the cash they raised on the night to charity and two local boxing clubs.

Of the money raised from the show, £2,000 went to the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC).

The Gosport Amateur Boxing Club and Titchfield Amateur Boxing Club were also given £100 each.

The head coach of HMS Sultan’s boxing team, Petty Officer Physical Trainer Daz Hoare, said: ‘It is so worthwhile having good links with the RNRMC due to the hard work and grants they provide, not just for serving members but also ex-serving members.

‘The RNRMC, along with the sports lottery, helped us get the boxing gymnasium up and running at HMS Sultan.’
