SAILORS from HMS Collingwood pounded the streets to raise money for charity.

The group from the Fareham naval base raised £500 for the Royal Navy Royal Marines Charity.

Petty Officer Tony Bennett, Chief Petty Officers Dave Hunt and Daniel Janicki took part in the Nottingham marathon. They, along with colleagues CPO Andy Bibb and Benny Goodman, are running the Maidstone half-marathon, the Great South Run, the Gosport half-marathon as well as the Brighton marathon and the London marathon next year in a bid to raise a total of £10,000.

PO Bennett said: ‘It’s a relatively new charity – it’s only been on the scene for about three or four years and I don’t think it is as publicised as it should be.

‘We all enjoy running and run regularly. The Great South Run is going to be a good platform for us to raise the flag for the RNRMC.

‘It’s going to be good, hopefully sponsorship will follow.’
