A ROYAL Navy officer has been commended after 33 years in the service.

Lieutenant Graham Martin was presented the Valedictory Certificate at HMS Collingwood in Fareham.

It is awarded upon retirement to those who have completed more than 20 years in the navy.

Lt Martin, 49, from Fareham, joined the Royal Navy in September 1980 as a marine engineer and will leave as a lieutenant working in the navy’s future training unit based at HMS Collingwood.

During his career, Lt Martin served on many ships and been awarded various medals including the Long Service and Good Conduct medal.
