SCORES of firms across the area are bidding to be part of a programme to build new submarines for the Royal Navy.

Companies are being invited to contribute to the process of designing and supplying components for the new Astute-class submarines currently being built for the navy.

And the government says a number of the firms are from the south east.

Barrow and Furness MP, John Woodcock, whose constituency covers the shipyard where the subs are being built, said: ‘It is a great pleasure to welcome firms from the south east.

‘The work they do is crucial to building incredible submarines that keep Britain safe.

‘They represent the cutting edge of Britain’s manufacturing sector.’
