Another of the Royal Navy’s former Type 22 frigates has left Portsmouth bound for the scrapyard.

Campbeltown is the second of four ships to leave the harbour, and will be towed to Turkey to be broken up.

Her sister ship Chatham left last week, while Cumberland is due to leave tomorrow.

A date has not been set for the departure of Cornwall, after the tug which was due to tow her to a scrapyard in Swansea was detained by the coastguard.

The four ships were all axed in the government’s 2010 defence cuts.
