PROUD sailor Joshua Fretwell has completed his training and is ready for service after following in his father’s footsteps.

The 21-year-old Able Seaman (Warfare Specialist), from Gosport, has finished his training at HMS Collingwood in Fareham.

He joined the navy in June last year, following the path set out by his dad Daniel who is a Warrant Officer 2 (Weapon Engineer) on HMS St Albans.

The avid basketball player and coach said: ‘I’ve enjoyed it, a good transition from phase one into the fleet, it’s been cracking.’

After doing the Warfare Specialist Training course he is ready to set up and run systems that give ships information for air and surface activities.

HMS Collingwood is home to the Maritime Warfare School, which helps with the operational capability of the fleet.
