MORE than £1bn will be pumped into improving housing for the nation’s families of serving soldiers.

Defence secretary Michael Fallon announced £1.1bn would be invested in creating new accommodation and facilities during yesterday’s Defence Committee meeting.

The 25-year contract was awarded to Aspire Defence Limited and will create 200 jobs.

The work will take place in Salisbury Plain and Aldershot, with a new ‘single living accommodation’ being created to cater for some 2,600 people.

Mr Fallon said the government was ‘committed to delivering better defence estate’ for military families.
