FRIENDS of the UK’s ‘capital ship’ spent the day in Portsmouth getting to know their affiliate frigate better.

The Worshipful Company of Fan Makers visited HMS Westminster at the start of the second half of her 14-month revamp.

The affiliates last visited the Type 23 frigate when she was in top condition for a trip up the Thames before her overhaul. Despite being hidden behind scaffolding and canvas, members of the company were able to see the ship from the bottom of dry dock No15.

The Fan Makers then took a trip around Nelson’s flagship HMS Victory.

Senior naval officer Lieutenant Commander Tim Ciaravella said: ‘It was a delightful visit and allowed us to maintain strong links with one of our long-standing affiliations.’
