BBC cooks The Hairy Bikers have filmed an episode at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and the naval base for their forthcoming series.

The bearded bikers rode into Portsmouth to record the series’ sixth episode aboard HMS Victory and HMS Illustrious. It will be broadcast on BBC2 on at 3.45pm next Monday.

In the episode, the hairy duo, David Myers and Simon King, explore how the British have managed to create fantastic food at times of war and how some of the nation’s favourite dishes have evolved from the innovation and spirit of people living on rations.

They tried their hand at rabbit stew and carrot cake and visited Victory to find out what Nelson’s men ate at sea.

Lieutenant Commander Oscar Whild, commanding officer of HMS Victory, said: ‘It was a delight to have both David and Simon on board HMS Victory to film extracts for their new series. The food that was prepared was actually very tasty and not at all as I would have expected – I could have eaten more.’
