In 1939 Sir Admiral Bertram Ramsay led Operation Dynamo, bringing more than 300,000 British and allied soldiers home in the evacuation of Dunkirk.

And in 1944 he led the naval operation of the Allied Naval Expeditionary Force for the D-Day invasion.
