THEY’RE both powered by Rolls-Royce – only one’s a state-of-the-art navy warship and the other is a classic car.

HMS Defender welcomed 40 members of the Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts Club, along with 15 of their vintage motors.

Their visit included a presentation of the Portsmouth-based Type 45 destroyer’s capabilities.

The ship itself is powered by Rolls-Royce turbines.

Lieutenant Commander Chris Pate, from HMS Defender, said: ‘It was a real privilege to be able to host the Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts Club on board.

‘We are always delighted to host members of the public on board as it allows us to demonstrate our capabilities.’

David Gray, the chairman of the club, added: ‘It was such an honour to visit HMS Defender alongside in her home port.’
