SAILORS on board one of the Royal Navy’s newest and most powerful warships welcomed the commander of the Royal Australian Navy.

Rear Admiral Stuart Campbell Mayer visited HMS Diamond, a Type 45 air-defence destroyer, on Wednesday.

He was shown round by Fleet Commander Vice Admiral Sir Philip Jones.

After his tour, Leading Regulator Kelly Ridell received a long service and a good conduct medal from Admiral Jones and Warrant Officer (Marine Engineering) Matthew Brown was presented with a warrant parchment marking his promotion.

Commander Marcus Hember, communication officer in HMS Diamond, said: ‘To host the senior staff was a real honour.’
