Flying above one of the Royal Navy’s newest and most powerful warships, HMS Dragon’s Lynx helicopter fires a dramatic display of decoy flares.

The helicopter was flown over the top of the ship, before deploying all of her decoy countermeasures flares at once.

This powerful image was captured by the ship’s on board photographer, Gosport-based Leading Photographer Dave Jenkins, the current navy photographer of the year.

LPhot Jenkins said: ‘There are times when you take plenty of pictures and have very little to show for them.

‘The images taken that night were as a result of some careful planning and good fortune. What is rewarding for me is that the crew are pleased with the picture because it represents the capability that HMS Dragon delivers on a daily basis.’

As reported in The News, HMS Dragon is currently in the Mediterranean, patrolling UK sovereign base areas and conducting exercises.
