CREW on a Navy warship are being vaccinated against whooping cough after two sailors caught the bug this week.

HMS Edinburgh was carrying out a training exercise off Plymouth when they fell ill.

The men were taken ashore and sent home before vaccine supplies were ordered in for the 260 members of crew.

The incident has not affected the Type 42 Destroyer’s scheduled overseas deployment, which will begin after her training.

A navy spokesman said: ‘We can confirm that two members of the ship’s company contracted whooping cough.

‘As a precautionary measure the ship’s company is being vaccinated.’
