THE team of Portsmouth-based minehunter HMS Middleton have told of their excitment as the ship prepares to deploy to the Gulf.

Middleton will be sailing for Bahrain on Monday, where she will stay for three years.

However, her ship’s company will work on a six-month rotation.

Chef Alex Tug Wilson said: ‘I am really looking forward to the deployment. This will be my second trip to the Gulf and it will be nice to have the experience of being part of a team that has taken a minehunter all the way to Bahrain.’

Her commanding officer, Lieutenant Commander Maryla Ingham added everyone was ‘looking forward to getting out there’.

Middleton is one of eight minehunters based in Portsmouth.
