Mine warfare experts take over in the Gulf

PORTSMOUTH-BASED mine warfare experts have taken over as the Royal Navy’s mine warfare force in the Gulf.

The 2nd Mine Counter-Measures Squadron (MCM2) has taken over from its Faslane counterpart as the minehunting force in the region.

The squadron directs the actions of HMS Quorn, HMS Atherstone, HMS Ramsey and HMS Shoreham.

The commanding officer of MCM2, Commander Martin Mackey, said: ‘The challenges facing the staff, the ships and the personnel continue.

‘It is my job to build on the success of my predecessor, and I look forward to meeting these challenges in order to deliver the Royal Navy’s enduring mine counter-measures presence in the Gulf.’
