THE Ministry of Defence has spent almost £30m on furniture since 2010.

The figures, revealed by defence minister Andrew Robathan, include furniture for military bases and service accommodation.

Almost £20m was spent on ‘free-standing furniture’ in 2010/11, with a further £10m in 2011/12.

Mr Robathan said: ‘The Ministry of Defence’s expenditure on free-standing furniture in the last two financial years was £10.045m in 2010/12 and £19.225m in 2010/11.

‘This includes expenditure on furniture for bases and service accommodation.’

Mr Robathan revealed the figures in response to a question from the DUP’s David Simpson.
