FIELD gun crews will put their skills to the test as part of a naval base’s popular annual open day.
HMS Collingwood in Fareham is opening its gates for a family fun day, featuring the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity Field Gun Competition.
The competition will see 20 crews from the UK and Gibraltar competing for the coveted Brickwoods Trophy.
The 18-man teams must run, dismantle, reassemble and fire the gun in the shortest possible time.
The crews have begun training this month to get ready for the event, which takes place on June 1.
During the open day there will be attractions, entertainment and dynamic displays.
The Royal Navy Raiders parachute display team will put on a show along with the Royal Marines Band Collingwood.
There will also be a fun fair for children.
People can also visit a recruitment zone with interactive activities and see some of the training equipment.
Free buses will run to the event from Fareham railway station and the Gosport ferry.
The gates open at 9.30am.
Tickets are available from the Gosport and Fareham offices of The News, or on the gate.
