THE nuclear emergency siren will be tested at Portsmouth Naval Base today at 9.30am.

People living in the city may hear the alarm which will sound for one minute.

The Royal Navy has given members of the public advance notice of the routine test to avoid any alarm in Portsmouth or Gosport.

By agreement with various local authorities, the siren is tested three times a year – on the last working days in February, June and October.
