HUNDREDS of men and women serve in the armed forces and now appeals are asking the public to show thanks and support.

Armed Forces Day is a national event held every year on June 27, and as a way to boost aid for troops the Ministry of Defence is setting up plans to take part in celebrations set up by the public.

Rear Admiral Simon Williams, Assistant Chief of the Defence Staff and Defence Services Secretary said: ‘Armed Forces Day is an opportunity to show every part of the armed forces community our appreciation and support, which is why we’re offering funding to help hundreds of communities across the UK convey their thanks through local events.’

The MoD is offering up to £10,000 in funding and anyone who wishes to apply for these funds is advised to do so before the deadline on March 27.

Further details about the scheme and how to apply can all be found online at armedforcesday.org.uk or via email at armedforcesday-events@mod.uk
